The name Fokker first came to prominence in 1915 and 1916, when monoplanes built by the manufacturer -- the first aircraft armed with machine guns synchronized to fire through the propeller -- swept Allied aircraft from the skies over the Western Front. This was followed by the Dr.I triplane notable for its association with the Red Baron, and later the D.VII.
